Welcome!

January 1, 2011 is the first day of a new year, and the second year I will try to attempt to post a photo every day for the next 365 days. It didn't work out so well last year. But as a New Years resolution, I have decided to try the 365 Day Photography challenge again.

31/365 Crystal Surprise

We were at a new antique shop in Oldtown on the northside of Lansing. I just looked up and there were all these crystal glasses. I am not thrilled with the exit sign in the picture but you can't control everything. Check out the old tin celling.

30/365 Downtown Lansing

This is the old Michigan National Bank building. It is now called the Jovi. It is the tallest building in the downtown area.

I remember as a child my doctor's office was on the 20th floor or something, one of the top floors. I remember looking out the window and getting freaked out. I still have a problem with heights and I think it was from being in this building.

29/365 Just Me and My Peeps...

We wobble but we don't fall down. This group remind me of my kid's childhood. Andy had a bunch of these little guys and he played with them all the time. I love how tight I was able to get in on this shot.

28/365 The Color Purple

This hat was waiting for me to take it's picture today as we were walking through an antique mall. The colors just popped for me.

27/365 Baby It's Cold Outside...

Corwin is such a cutie, and he loves to have his picture taken. He was outside helping Grandpa Tom clean off the driveway when we stopped today. It was a little warmer and he loves to be wherever Grandpa is.

26/365 Hello, It's Me...

Once in awhile I like to post odd pictures and this one is one of the oddest. I like it. The colors are a little off and it's a little overexposed, but this was the only picture I took today that I liked. Sometimes you just don't feel like or don't aways have the time to take a bunch of photos. Today was one of those days.

25/365 Donald, Daisy and the Whole Gang...Almost.

The Looking Glass river runs thur the middle of downtown DeWitt and the gang was all there waiting for someone to come and fed them. As my husband and I pulled into the park, they all came out of the water and up onto shore. They came over to the car and waited for us to get out. Then a lady and her son walked up with a loaf of bread, the group went back into the water and waited for them to throw the bread into the river.
I am amazed that the ducks have the people so well trained in downtown DeWitt.

24/365 Angels

I love these little angels. My husband has these to sell for somebody. The fun for me, I can take pictures and not have them around the house for long to gather dust. It's a win, win for me. My husband is the king of collectors. It does give me plenty of subjects to use. But it drives my crazy...sorry.

23/365 Downtown Lansing in Color

Nice scene of the State Capital of Michigan.

22/365 Lines and Repetition Against a Winter Sky

This is an old church beside an old cemetery in the DeWitt area. I love this old church. The date on the front of the building is 1882. I found a headstone of a man who was born in 1824 and died in 1900. My father was born in 1902. I am just amazed that man had died two years before my dad was born.

21/365 God's Amazing Work

I am amazed at God's work at times. One little stem on the bush in front of our house has ice on it. The rest of the bush is green or covered in snow. This one little stem is the only one that is ice covered. I think it is very odd but beautiful. I can't see where water had dipped on it. It's just there.

20/365 12 String Guitar

This is my new, new to me, 12 string guitar. My husband bought it for me...just because. I am married to such a great guy. The Eagles "Hotel California" sounds so cool on it.

19/365 She Loves You...

My husband was given a box of 45s, free, to sell on EBay. When he seen this Beatles 45, in the dust jacket, he said he knew who would want it. I am a big Beatles fan from way back. This 45 with the jacket is valued at $20.00. Of course, it's mine. I was nice, I give him a couple bucks.

18/365 Toronto...30 Miles Away

I took this picture out the window of a hilltop restaurant in Sanborn New York. It was a clear night last fall. You can see Lake Ontario in between. If you were to drive around the "hub" it's 120 miles. Straight across the lake it's only 30. I thought the picture was kind of cool.

January 17, 2011

17/365 Cactus...Don't Ask

"A spiny leafless plant with fleshy stems and branches and often with brilliantly colored flowers." I don't know. It's a cool cactus. I like it.

15/365 Wagon In The Snow

I have driven by this old wagon for years and never thought to take a picture. I seen this today and something clicked.

14/365 The Name Say It All

One of my favorite places in the world. I love eating here. I was out late and I thought it would make a nice after dark photo.

January 13, 2011

13/365 Sparty in the Winter

Standing ready, standing strong.

12/365 Captial in Black and White

It is a cold, clear night tonight. I think the use of light only makes this picture seem colder somehow.

I seem to have a "thing" about taking black and white pictures. It is a challenge to use light only for your photos to tell a story. I am really not very good at it. I hope to become better.

January 11, 2011

11/365 Drum Kit

I had always wanted to play drums. This may be the year. Who know?

January 10, 2011

10/365 A Different View

My husband and I were antique shopping in Jackson Michigan and this view catch my eye. It just looks better on an angle.

January 9, 2011

9/365 Old Bottles

I love my husband's collection of old bottles. I love how you can see the dust...or maybe not.

January 8, 2011

8/365 Turtle Quilt

A friend on the reservation made this quilt. I am amazed at the beauty and craftsmanship of this talented Native American woman. I won't mention her name. She is part of the Turtle clan.

January 7, 2011

7/365 Turner Dodge in the Snow

I took a picture of this house in the summer before I went to New York, so I thought I should take a picture of the house now in the winter. I love this house anyway. I can take a picture anytime of this house, because it is so beautiful.

January 6, 2011

6/365 Sweet Dreams of Spring...

A friend had these orange daisies on their dinning table and it reminded me so of spring. I wanted to take these pictures. Sadly, it is only January and Spring in Michigan is three months away.

5/365 Cats, Cats, Cats...

"No matter how cats fight, there always seem to be plenty of kittens." - Abraham Lincoln

4/365 How Ironic

In the background is the big Seneca casino in downtown Niagara Falls. I thought it was ironic that I was standing in the parking lot of the Social Services building and looking across the street at the abandoned houses and in the background was the casino.

The front of the building is all mirrored glass and it reflects the clouds and sky. It is beautiful. A lot of money is won and lost in that building. The Falls themselves are a couple blocks behind the casino. The mist or clouds that is seen in the sky are from the Falls.

Every year visitors come to see the Falls and try their luck at the casino. They say more than a million a year. Only ten odd blocks to the east, Niagara Falls is dead and dying.

3/365 My Son Andy

Andy is one of my biggest supporters. Carman just loves to have her picture taken.

2/365 Puppy Update

These are our four month old puppies, Rocky and Brownie. When I left to go the Niagara Falls in September, they were little blobs that had just opened their eyes. Now they're little spit fires. Rocky looks like Cisco and Brownie is small like his mother Beebe. They are both still for sale.

Year 2/Day 1: A New Year...A New Picture...A New Start

As I think about the start of a new year I am wondering what this year will bring. When I began a year ago, I thought taking a picture a day would be easy. In the beginning it was easy, so many pictures to take and trying to find new ways of taking them. As the year went on, I tried to keep it fresh, but it was a struggle.

Then in August I was offered a job in Niagara Falls, New York. By September I was so busy, I couldn't find the time. I took a picture here and there but I had so much in my plate. Also, I didn't have all my equipment with me. It became very hard to update. I didn't have my photo software or a computer to download what I was taking.

Now that I am back in Michigan I will try again this year. I hope I have grown as a photographer. I may sometimes throw in some old pictures from my time in New York. Who knows?

I will try again to take a picture a day for 365 days in 2011. So let's begin...
